LEARN FROM THE INDIANS
Tickle by George Bain January 1998
No question! the Indians where... are? wise and honorable people!, loving of nature and everything on it.
MMMHHH - I ask myself, often do, what would they have done, ecology wise, with the solid waste if they had been a hundred million instead of a few hundred thousand?, would they have managed it wisely? mmmhhh!
But that is not the center of the present subject I would like to tickle you with today, maybe some other time, the subject matter today is:
DEATH!
It has to do with a lesson learnt from an old cowboy movie where the old people from the tribe, when they knew their time had come, for they were old and unable to perform a worthwhile duty, waited for the worst day of winter, the coldest, then they rapped themselves in the family blanket and walked to their favorite site. There they would sit and hum their favorite song, until the great Spirit came for them, and so it was the end.-
The younger Indians, found them, deader than a mackerel and with great respect gave them final burial.-
Now continuing with our story let us compare ourselves, old people, with those of yonder years in the Indian country!
We get Medicare-Medicaid to the tune of tens of thousands of dollars per year, for we have no family blanket or cold days or favorite site or even a tune to hum, nor the gump of getting out of the way when when we are of no use anymore!
Death and traveling to meet the Great Spirit willingly, are not in our agenda!-
Ok, Ok except for those few the Kardesian? sp. Doctor, helped to leave.
We rather stay here and squeeze everyday we can out of this life in front of the TV. while collecting Social Security!, and our 401 k's.
Let that be well and good!
But then, let us inject a little pride into the subject, let us get a family insignia or blanket or emblem, do not have one?, you say?, well then spent a few dollars and MAKE ONE!
How?, you say? Well lets see, think of your likes and dislikes, where your family originally came from, how about your dreams, accomplished and pending, remember you have nothing but time, learn how to net or saw or, or, put all that into the family, blanket, when you finish it, wear it and be proud of it.
Then let us get a series of codes to live by, like helping those worst off than we to make their family blanket, taking inventory of what we still can do for the baker and the candlestick maker and throw in the jailbird and the drug-dependant and in our meeting with other older folks let us leader a group into action, even if it is old action, but action and even it is for a minute or two, for we have to take our medicine and go to the doctor.
And then after the action has been acted on, retreat and take a short bath and eat healthy although not always tasty and go forth another day in a cold winter in the warmth of our air conditioned homes and wait for the Great Spirit to come and get us in style and in good time.
But only after having done many many good deeds! which will be added in a form or other to our family blankets.
Any takers?, times doth have changed!, Live on in the great blue yonder Sonny Bono, live on! and Amen!
