In the case of a pineapple processing, it was important to show that of every ton sourced, 650 kilos need to be disposed of as waste. In the pineapple industry that amount is significant enough to serve as the raw material for a second factory, that of animal feed.
In cases like tomatoes were 7% is discarded in seeds and skins, the tonnage processed daily, over 1000 tons in most factories, makes the volume of waste, again significant.
